The Dekalb County Soil Conservation District exists to help local farmers, landowners, and residents make the most of their land through sound conservation practices. Our staff works alongside the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and other partner agencies to deliver technical assistance, cost-share opportunities, and practical guidance on everything from soil health and water quality to erosion control and grazing management. Whether you are a longtime producer or a first-time landowner, we are committed to connecting you with the tools and resources you need to keep your property productive and sustainable for years to come.
Our office serves as a central hub for conservation activity across the county, providing information on permits for outdoor burning, debris removal, and other land management activities that require advance approval. We also coordinate with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and the Division of Forestry to help residents conduct safe burns and stay informed about weather conditions and precautionary measures. If you have questions about a specific program or need help navigating the paperwork involved, our conservationist and support staff are ready to guide you through the process from start to finish.
We encourage you to reach out through whatever channel is most convenient for you. Our team is available by phone and email during regular business hours, and visitors are welcome to stop by our office in Smithville to discuss their conservation goals in person. When you contact us, we will work to understand your needs, recommend appropriate practices for your land, and help you take the next steps toward implementing them. No matter where you are in your conservation journey, we are here to help you succeed.
