About DeKalb County SCD
Background on the DeKalb County Soil Conservation District, including its history, mission, and annual reports.
History of DeKalb County Conservation
Soil Conservation Districts were established across Tennessee to help farmers and landowners protect natural resources. The DeKalb County SCD has served the Smithville area for decades, working alongside the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Farm Service Agency (FSA) to deliver practical conservation support at the local level.
The district's work is rooted in the belief that healthy soil and clean water are foundational to the region's agricultural economy. Through partnerships with state and federal agencies, the SCD has helped producers adopt practices that reduce erosion, improve water quality, and sustain productive farmland for future generations.
Annual Reports
The DeKalb County SCD publishes annual reports summarizing district activities, program participation, and conservation outcomes. These documents provide transparency into how the district serves local producers and stewards public resources.
Annual reports are available for review at the district office. Contact the SCD for access to current and past reports.
Meeting Minutes
Regular board meetings guide the direction of the district. Meeting minutes document decisions on conservation programs, budget allocations, and district priorities.
Minutes are maintained as public records. Inquiries about board meeting schedules or past minutes can be directed to the SCD office.
Value of Agriculture in DeKalb County
Agriculture remains a cornerstone of DeKalb County's economy and way of life. The county's farms produce row crops, hay, and livestock, supported by the rolling landscape and fertile soils of Middle Tennessee. Conservation practices promoted by the SCD help ensure that agricultural operations remain viable and environmentally sound.
By investing in soil health, water management, and sustainable land use, the district contributes to the long-term resilience of the county's farming community.
